San Antonio Express: Saturday May 17, 1958

Roger Corman, youthful producer-director, was in San Antonio Saturday to celebrate his foresight - or good luck - in releasing America's first satellite movie the same day that the Russians announced their new Sputnik.

Corman said he read the headlines in Hollywood when he got up Thursday morning, and immediately decided to fly to San Antonio, where his "War of the Satellites" had its world premiere at the Texas Theater, Thursday.

Corman said "War of the Satellites" was made with the technical advice of two scientists from Caltech and consequently is probably the most accurate science fiction picture ever made.

"War of the Satellites" is appearing at the Texas on a double bill with "Attack of the 50-Foot Woman," also a thrill picture and a world premiere but not made by Corman.

Corman started work on the script for "War of the Satellites" last November, soon after the launching of Sputnik I. The war in the title, however, is a conflict between earthmen and superior creatures from outer space. The picture is full of special effects and trick photography.
