1765. In the village of Arkham, the uneasy citizens discover strange goings-on at the mansion of Joseph Curwen (Vincent Price). He is a warlock who imprisons young girls and leaves them to the mercies of strange creatures from the nether world.

The villagers burn Curwen as a witch. But as he burns he curses them, and vows he will rise from the dead.

100 years later, Charles Dexter Ward (Vincent Price) and his wife Ann (Debra Paget) visit Arkham. Ward bears a startling resemblance to Curwen, his ancestor.
